At the Multi-Purpose Courts in Suva, intense preparations took place as over 70 volleyball players from various regions gathered for fitness testing aimed at building the national squad for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau. This selection process is critical as athletes strive to earn their place and represent Fiji in this prestigious event scheduled for June 29 to July 9, 2025.

Myron Williams, the manager of Fiji Men’s Volleyball, emphasized the importance of these tests in assessing the players’ current fitness levels. He mentioned that the insights gained would inform the selection of an extended squad that would enter a training camp over the next three months. “We’ve monitored these players during the Vulaca Championship and other association club games, and today’s tests help us determine their readiness,” Williams noted.

This event comes on the heels of various competitive activities in Fiji’s volleyball scene, notably the Beach Volleyball knockout competition organized by the Suva Volleyball Association, which also contributes to identifying talent for international competitions like the Mini Games. Both events underscore a growing commitment to enhancing volleyball prospects in Fiji and fostering a competitive environment for players.

The Pacific Mini Games not only serve as a platform for displaying athletic prowess but also hold the promise of increased international attention for Fiji’s sports culture. With preparation efforts gathering momentum across various sports disciplines, the resolve shown by these athletes reflects a hopeful path towards success on the global stage. The enthusiasm and talent among Fiji’s volleyball players, combined with dedicated training, point to a brighter future for the sport as they aim to establish a strong competitive presence at the upcoming Mini Games.
