The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has initiated investigations into the smuggling of vape products into Fiji without the necessary permits. This warning highlights that any attempt to import such items illegally is regarded as a serious offense.
FRCS noticed a troubling rise in online advertisements promoting vape products, which has raised alarms regarding adherence to importation laws. The organization emphasized that individuals and businesses must obtain an official permit from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MOHMS) before importing vape products for commercial purposes.
The authority reiterated that any vape products brought into the country without the required permits will be subject to confiscation. In a recent incident, FRCS intercepted a shipment that was declared with an incorrect quantity, revealing further attempts to bypass regulations.
Violating customs and revenue laws by smuggling vape products, or submitting false information on import paperwork, can lead to severe consequences, including the forfeiture of goods and additional regulatory actions.
FRCS has strongly advised all intending importers of vape products to consult with the MOHMS to ensure full compliance with all legal requirements prior to the shipment of any goods into Fiji. The agency plans to maintain a vigilant stance on imports and online activities to enforce compliance, reflecting its commitment to protecting public health and maintaining border security.
This proactive approach not only aims to uphold regulatory standards but also contributes to a healthier environment by discouraging illegal trade in substance products.
