Team Fiji Va’a has made a strong impression on the opening day of the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Koror, Palau, clinching a total of three medals. Raymond Rusivakula set the tone for the team by securing Fiji’s first medal, earning a bronze in the V1 500m Open Men’s final with a commendable time of 2 minutes and 25.30 seconds.

Elenoa Vateitei, a notable athlete who won gold at the 2023 Pacific Games, also shone brightly, earning a silver in the V1 500m Open Women’s final. She finished the race in 2:38.59, just behind Samoa’s Anne Cairns, who took the gold with a time of 2:36.29.

Additionally, the V12 500m Mixed team contributed to the medal tally by winning another bronze, competing fiercely against teams from Tahiti and Papua New Guinea.

Coach Stanley Ooms expressed pride in his athletes’ performances, highlighting their determination and teamwork. “I’m just so happy for all our teams that were on the podium today. They made our team proud,” he commented.

As the competition continues, Team Fiji Va’a is poised to compete in additional events, including the V6 500m races across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories, presenting further opportunities for medal wins.
