Two new educational journals have been launched in Suva, aimed at bridging the gap between academic achievements and sporting progress for primary and secondary school students and athletes. Created by Alumeci Vosararawa-Sachs, the founder of Vodre Investment, with contributions from her husband John and daughter Marisa, these journals are designed to serve as essential tools for schools throughout Fiji to help achieve their educational and extracurricular objectives.
The journals, named “Champions Mindset” and “Reach for the Stars,” focus on sporting advancement and academic growth, respectively. During the launch event at Sportsworld, Vosararawa-Sachs emphasized the importance of documenting the journeys of students and athletes, highlighting the current lack of recorded progress in these areas. “A majority of the time, we do not document most of these things, so we are encouraging athletes to write it up, to document it,” she stated.
According to Vosararawa-Sachs, the journals are not only beneficial for students but also serve as a valuable resource for coaches and teachers, enabling them to track the improvements of their athletes and students. She noted that personal conversations between coaches and students can help motivate them in schools, clubs, and elite sports environments.
Shailendra Prasad, general manager of digital financial services at Vodafone Fiji, attended the launch and praised the journals as an important initiative led by an indigenous Fijian and woman-owned business. He reflected on the challenges faced by elite athletes after their sporting careers, noting that many find themselves unrecognized and lost. This accentuates the need for structured documentation of their achievements and progress.
Vinod Kumar, the general manager of SportsWorld, echoed these sentiments, stating that the journals will highlight the necessity of tracking progress for both students and athletes, thereby underscoring their importance for the future.
The journals are priced at $16 each and can be purchased at all 14 SportsWorld locations across Fiji, or through the online shopping platform VitiKart, facilitated by Vodafone Fiji, with payments directed to Vodre Investment via Vodafone’s M-Paisa service. This initiative not only champions academic and athletic success but also represents a step towards empowering local businesses and individuals in the community.
