Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially inaugurated its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, marking a significant advancement in medical treatment options for chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The announcement was made during a launch event in Nadi, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.
The facility features a Hyperbaric Chamber that will operate 24 hours a day, aimed at expediting recovery and drastically reducing the necessity for amputations—a concerning trend in Fiji, attributed to high levels of diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting the alarming statistic of one amputation occurring every 12 hours in Fiji. According to him, the introduction of HBOT is a crucial move towards enhancing health outcomes and minimizing this pressing health issue.
In addition to benefiting local patients, PSH’s new service is expected to draw individuals from other Pacific Island nations, thereby enhancing Fiji’s stature as a leader in healthcare within the region. The HBOT treatment promises shorter recovery times and improved patient outcomes, contributing positively to the overall health of the population.
Professor Prasad also introduced the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which aims to provide discounts on healthcare services to active sugarcane growers in Fiji. This initiative is designed to ensure that farmers have affordable access to necessary medical care, demonstrating the government’s ongoing commitment to provide health services, particularly in rural areas.
The Deputy Prime Minister further emphasized the Coalition Government’s dedication to modernizing Fiji’s healthcare system, spotlighting key projects such as an Indian Government-funded 100-bed super-specialty hospital and improvements to the CWM Hospital. He assured that healthcare remains a top priority in Fiji’s development agenda.
With the launch of HBOT and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is establishing itself as a pioneer in healthcare innovation, making advanced treatments more accessible, and promoting the well-being of the Fijian population.
Hopeful and positive outlook: The investments in healthcare infrastructure and technology reflect a progressive vision for Fiji’s future, paving the way for improved health outcomes and greater resources for the communities most in need. This initiative not only aims to tackle current health challenges but also lays a foundation for a stronger, healthier nation moving forward.
