Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. Recognized as one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, this multi-million dollar facility is designed to accommodate high-end travelers visiting Laucala Island Resort.
This private investment highlights a strong collaboration between the resort’s owner, the government, and local landowners in enhancing guest services and supporting national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant private investment, which meets international standards of excellence.
Rabuka emphasized that this facility represents Fiji’s commitment to improving its aviation capabilities and exceptional guest experiences, signifying the nation’s progress and innovation. He mentioned that the Air Laucala Hangar reflects Fiji’s vision for becoming a leader in aviation within the Pacific region.
The Prime Minister noted that the hangar will bolster aircraft maintenance and servicing, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations. Additionally, it is expected to generate numerous job opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and serve as a venue for training and skill development, equipping the workforce with essential expertise in the aviation sector.
He expressed appreciation to all contributors involved in the project’s execution, especially the landowners in Nadi and Laucala Island. The facility aims to provide young engineers and technicians with hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies, nurturing a new generation of talent to advance Fiji’s aviation industry.
Kevin Abramowicz, representing the owner, shared that the project’s roots lie in the vision of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s owner. He mentioned that the hangar will facilitate a smooth transition for international carriers and private jets to Air Laucala’s aircraft, reducing transit times and enhancing visitor comfort.
Abramowicz added that the hangar is designed to provide excellent working conditions for the Air Laucala fleet management team, located close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport. He concluded by stating that owner Mark Mateschitz is devoted to continuing his father’s legacy of development in the North and across Fiji.
