Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially launched its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, a pioneering treatment designed to address chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch event in Nadi was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Professor Biman Prasad, who emphasized the significance of this service for the healthcare landscape in Fiji.

The HBOT chamber, which will be operational around the clock, aims to enhance recovery rates and significantly lower the incidence of amputations, a pressing issue in Fiji due to the high prevalence of diabetes-related complications. Professor Prasad pointed out that there is an alarming rate of one amputation every 12 hours in the country, and he expressed the urgent need to address this crisis.

He highlighted that the introduction of HBOT represents a critical advancement in health outcomes and a strategic move to attract patients from other Pacific Island nations, placing Fiji at the forefront of regional healthcare services. The therapy is expected to reduce recovery times and improve overall patient outcomes, thereby contributing to the broader health of the population.

In addition to the HBOT service, Professor Prasad introduced the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides discounts on healthcare services for active sugarcane growers in Fiji. This initiative not only supports the farming community but also ensures they have access to affordable healthcare, demonstrating the government’s commitment towards enhancing health services, especially in rural areas.

Furthering his remarks, Prasad noted that the current Coalition Government is determined to modernize Fiji’s healthcare system, supported by significant projects like the Indian Government-funded 100-bed super-specialty hospital and enhancements to CWM Hospital. He reaffirmed that healthcare remains a top priority in the development agenda of the country.

With these new initiatives, PSH is solidifying its role as a pioneer in healthcare innovation, enhancing access to advanced treatments and championing the health of Fiji’s inhabitants. The proactive measures taken by the government and PSH signify a hopeful future for healthcare in Fiji, potentially transforming the lives of many amidst ongoing challenges.
