Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This facility, considered one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, has been developed at a cost of millions and is designed to accommodate high-end travelers heading to the Laucala Island Resort.

The private investment exemplifies the collaborative effort between the resort owner, the government, and local landowners in providing exceptional guest services while contributing to national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed the Coalition Government’s appreciation for this significant investment, which meets international standards of excellence.

“This state-of-the-art facility not only reflects our commitment to enhancing our aviation capabilities and guest services but also signifies our nation’s growth and innovation,” Rabuka stated. He emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar aligns with Fiji’s vision to lead in aviation excellence across the Pacific.

He further explained that the hangar would improve the maintenance and servicing of aircraft, ensuring safe, efficient, and dependable aviation operations. Additionally, the facility is anticipated to create numerous job opportunities and foster economic development. It will also serve as a venue for training and skill development, equipping the local workforce with essential knowledge and expertise for successful careers in the aviation sector.

Rabuka extended his gratitude to all individuals involved in bringing this project to fruition, including local landowners from Nadi and Laucala Island. The hangar promises to offer young engineers and technicians the chance to engage with the latest aviation technologies, cultivating a skilled workforce for the future.

Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, shared that the project was inspired by the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, the previous owner of the resort. He noted that the new facility would facilitate smoother transit for international carriers and private jets into Laucala’s aircraft.

“Apart from minimizing transit times and maximizing visitor comfort in the lounge, the hangar has also been designed to provide high-quality workspace for our Air Laucala fleet management team, situated conveniently near industry professionals at the Nadi International Airport,” Abramowicz explained. He assured that current owner Mark Mateschitz is dedicated to Fiji and is passionate about continuing his father’s legacy of development in the North and across the nation.
