Fiji Unveils Cutting-Edge Hangar to Boost Aviation and Tourism

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the high-tech Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. Regarded as one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, this multi-million dollar facility is designed for affluent tourists heading to the Laucala Island Resort for vacations.

This venture reflects a strong partnership among the resort’s owner, the government, and landowners, aimed at providing outstanding guest services while achieving national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this substantial private investment, which meets international quality standards.

Rabuka emphasized that the hangar not only showcases Fiji’s commitment to enhancing aviation capabilities and premium guest services but also symbolizes the nation’s progress and innovation. He described the Air Laucala Hangar as a vision for a future where Fiji leads in aviation excellence in the Pacific.

“This facility will improve our ability to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability in our aviation operations,” he stated. He also acknowledged the hangar’s potential to create job opportunities, drive economic growth, and serve as a venue for training and skill development for the workforce.

“I extend my sincere thanks to all who contributed to making this project a reality, including the landowners here in Nadi and on Laucala Island,” he remarked. The hangar aims to give young engineers and technicians practical experience with cutting-edge technologies, nurturing a new generation of skilled professionals in the aviation sector.

Kevin Abramowicz, Director of Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, spoke on behalf of the owner, noting that the facility was inspired by the vision of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s former owner. Abramowicz mentioned that the new hangar will facilitate seamless transit for both international carriers and private jets, enhancing the travel experience for visitors.

“Besides reducing transit times and ensuring comfort in the lounge, the hangar will also provide excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, conveniently located near industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” he added. Abramowicz also confirmed that the current owner, Mark Mateschitz, remains dedicated to Fiji and is passionate about continuing his father’s legacy of development in the region.
