The Fiji National Security and Defence Review (NSDR) aims to provide a strategic framework for Fiji to address various complex threats to its sovereignty and stability. During the launch of the NSDR at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua highlighted that the current security landscape includes risks such as cyber threats, climate change, transnational crime, and geopolitical challenges, emphasizing the need for Fiji to adopt an agile and proactive stance.
A key aspect of the NSDR is the recommendation for a comprehensive approach that involves the engagement of both government and society in matters of security. Tikoduadua stressed the importance of collaboration among the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Fiji Police Force, other government entities, civil society, and the private sector, stating, “National security is not the responsibility of a single entity—it is a shared responsibility that touches all of us.”
The review received contributions from an Editorial Board, which includes Professor Satish Chand, Associate Professor Shailendra Singh, Assistant Professor Ana Rokomokoti, and NSDR Independent lead Jim Sanday. Community consultations will also play a crucial role in gathering primary data for the NSDR from both government and civil society stakeholders.
