Fiji Rugby Union Chairman John Sanday has announced exciting plans to develop the Skipper Select into its own independent brand at Rugby House. He envisions the team, which consists of top players from each province in the Skipper Cup, as a vital pathway for athletes aiming to enhance their rugby careers. This initiative intends to bridge the gap between provincial rugby, professional club levels, and international representation.

Sanday acknowledged that while not every player will make it to the Drua or the Flying Fijians, the union remains dedicated to assisting players in securing professional contracts abroad. “Because not all players will end up playing for the Flying Fijians, it’s our duty to ensure that we provide the platform for our boys and girls to come through and have an opportunity to go out into the world and find their fortune or their future,” he stated.

As someone who has represented Fiji at a national level, Sanday expressed a deep commitment to supporting aspiring players in realizing their dreams on the rugby field. This future-focused strategy not only highlights the resilience and ambition of Fiji’s rugby players but also demonstrates the union’s commitment to nurturing talent and expanding opportunities in the sport. With such initiatives in place, there is a strong optimism for the future of rugby in Fiji as it strives to develop its next generation of athletes.
