Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the nation’s Foreign Policy Water Paper adopts a comprehensive approach that encompasses all aspects of policy, both domestic and international. During a parliamentary address, Rabuka emphasized that the policy is grounded in a clear understanding of Fiji’s national interests and values, which are crucial for ensuring the country’s security and prosperity.
He detailed that the document articulates Fiji’s self-perception and the desired image it aims to project on the global stage. Among the initiatives highlighted is the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which Rabuka described as Fiji’s most significant contribution to peace and security within the region and the broader Indo-Pacific area.
The Prime Minister explained that the White Paper outlines Fiji’s identity and core values, effectively defining who the nation is and its beliefs. He noted that it lays out the Government’s strategic approach to executing Fiji’s foreign policy alongside the necessary systems and resources to facilitate effective governance.
Additionally, Rabuka pointed out that the White Paper is closely aligned with Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and addresses the current National Security and Defence Review. He stated that these elements together form the foundation of the Government’s strategy to promote Fiji’s strategic and economic interests while fostering social cohesion.
