The Government unveiled its “National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050” in Suva, laying out essential actions for the country’s future direction.
During the launch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad, who led the development of the NDP, emphasized that the document serves as an important response to both national and global challenges.
“This national development plan emerges at a critical juncture to address pressing global, regional, and national issues, shaping our national prospects and defining the boundaries of our shared future,” stated Prof Prasad.
He highlighted that the plan was shaped by extensive consultations, offering a comprehensive and inclusive vision for Fiji’s future.
“My message to Fiji is that this is your plan, and we are the stewards of it. If you are a young individual concerned about employment and future security, a woman weary from discussions on ending gender discrimination without results, an elderly or disabled person anxious about future care and dignity, an ITaukei worried about sustainability and opportunities in rural and maritime areas, or an Indo-Fijian concerned about safety and prospects, remember that this is your plan. This plan belongs to all of us,” he added.
Prof Prasad noted that while the government will spearhead the initiative, the success of the plan depends on a collective effort from the business sector, civil society, and youth. He assured that the plan addresses the concerns of various groups, including youth, women, the elderly, and marginalized communities, reinforcing that it belongs to all Fijians.
“We embark on this shared journey together, and nothing can impede our progress if we remain united in this national endeavor to rebuild a great country and unlock its potential for our citizens,” stated Prof Prasad.
The NDP aims to steer Fiji towards resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity, providing a clear framework for economic growth and enhanced well-being.
The event saw the attendance of government officials, diplomats, and community leaders.
