The Government officially introduced its “National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050” in Suva yesterday, highlighting strategic initiatives for the nation’s future.
At the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized that the NDP is a vital response to both national and global challenges. “This national development plan emerges at a critical moment to tackle our urgent global, regional, and national challenges and to influence our nation’s prospects and shape our collective future,” Prof Prasad remarked.
He noted that the plan was crafted through extensive consultations and serves as a comprehensive and inclusive vision for the future of Fiji.
“This is your plan, Fiji. We are the stewards of this plan. Whether you are a young person concerned about employment and future security, a woman weary of unfulfilled promises to eliminate gender inequality, an elderly or disabled individual worried about future care and dignity, an iTaukei anxious about sustainability in rural areas, or an Indo-Fijian seeking security and opportunity, this plan belongs to all of us,” Prof Prasad stated.
He acknowledged that while the government will lead the initiative, the success of the NDP is dependent on the combined efforts of the business community, civil society, and youth. The plan aims to address the concerns of various groups, reinforcing its significance for all citizens of Fiji.
“We are on this shared journey together, and as long as we remain united in this national mission to rebuild our country, nothing can hinder our progress,” Prof Prasad declared.
The National Development Plan is designed to steer Fiji toward resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity, while establishing a clear pathway for economic growth and enhanced well-being.
The event was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and local leaders.
