Fiji’s judicial system marked a significant advancement with the inauguration of the new $29 million Ba Court complex. This state-of-the-art facility is a crucial step in the government’s ongoing effort to decentralize judicial services, making them more accessible to the people of Fiji.

During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the Coalition Government’s dedication to protecting fundamental human rights, individual freedoms, and the rule of law. He underscored that all citizens have the legal right to seek justice and noted that the Ba Court’s new facility will alleviate the workload of the existing court system.

The new Ba High Court will handle appeals related to the Central Agricultural Tribunal as well as civil, criminal, and family court matters, serving not just Ba Province but also the surrounding regions of Ra, Tavua, Bukuya, Magodro, and Nadarivatu.

Rabuka concluded the ceremony by praising the judiciary for its continuous efforts to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities and amplify access to justice. He reminded attendees that collective action is essential for sustainable development and achieving a prosperous future for Fiji, encouraging a commitment to resilience and sustainability for the generations ahead.

In summary, the opening of the new Ba Court complex marks an important milestone in improving access to justice for the people of Fiji, highlighting the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all citizens can seek justice without unnecessary barriers. Through these efforts, Fiji is on the path toward a more equitable and prosperous future.
