The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has introduced a three-month tax amnesty program for taxpayers, allowing individuals and businesses to pay off outstanding taxes without facing penalties. Running from May 1 to July 31, 2025, the initiative aims to enhance tax collection, reduce outstanding debts, and improve tax compliance.
This 2025 Tax Amnesty Program, launched recently, gives eligible taxpayers the opportunity to both file overdue tax returns and amend incorrect or incomplete ones, while receiving a waiver on most administrative penalties. The FRCS is actively encouraging taxpayers to utilize this window to regularize their tax status without incurring penalties, thus supporting a healthier fiscal environment.
According to the FRCS, this measure is expected to strengthen Fiji’s tax system, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth by boosting tax compliance. Eligible participants include those who, by March 31, 2025, have yet to file their tax returns, have outstanding self-assessed or FRCS-assessed taxes, or still owe penalties after having paid their taxes.
The amnesty applies to all taxes administered by the FRCS, including income tax, VAT, PAYE, customs duties, and other applicable levies. However, taxpayers currently involved in litigation with the FRCS or under criminal investigation, as well as those with fraudulent reporting issues, are excluded from this initiative. Applications for the amnesty must be submitted through the Taxpayer Online Service (TPOS) portal.
This program aligns with Fiji’s broader strategy to improve tax governance through initiatives like the recently established Tax Compliance Taskforce, which aims to maximize tax compliance and address tax evasion. Together, these efforts shine a hopeful light on the country’s financial future, suggesting a commitment to economic transparency and the responsible management of tax regulations.
With strong collaboration anticipated between the FRCS, the government, and the business community, there is an optimistic outlook for the improvement of tax compliance levels, leading to sustainable economic growth in Fiji.
