Fiji’s first-ever Justice Summit 2025, held in Nadi, marked a significant milestone as leaders and stakeholders from various sectors convened to discuss the future of justice in the nation. Minister for Information, Lynda Tabuya, praised the Ministry of Justice for its inclusive approach in reforming the justice system, highlighting that true justice extends beyond courtrooms to encompass effective communication and mutual respect among all citizens.
During the summit, Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, delivered a keynote address in which he unveiled the Final Report on the Functional Status of Fiji’s Law and Justice Sector and the forthcoming 2025–2029 Reform Roadmap. These vital documents outline strategic reforms aimed at strengthening public trust and addressing systemic challenges within the justice sector. His Excellency, Acting President and Chief Justice Salesi Temo, officially launched these reports, demonstrating a unified commitment to ongoing reform.
Tabuya recognized the collaborative spirit evident in the discussions, thanking various partners such as Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Judiciary, the Fiji Law Society, non-governmental organizations, and faith-based groups for their contributions. She emphasized the necessity for transparency and dialogue in communicating reforms, noting that successful justice reform relies heavily on public trust.
The summit reflects ongoing efforts to elevate Fiji’s legal landscape and reinforce a judicial framework that is both accessible and equitable for all Fijians. This commitment mirrors previous conversations including those led by Chief Justice Temo regarding the judiciary’s dedication to accountability and the need to modernize processes to reduce case backlogs.
As Fiji moves toward the implementation of the 2025-2029 Reform Roadmap, optimistic prospects for the justice system continue to emerge. With a focus on collaboration, transparency, and respect for human rights, the initiatives discussed at the summit signal a hopeful journey towards a more just and responsive legal framework, ensuring that every Fijian can access justice effectively and equitably.
