Fiji University Games: A Celebration of Sports and Unity!

This year’s Fiji University Games held in Suva has drawn over 1,000 participants from various universities nationwide. The three-day event showcases a variety of sports, including athletics, rugby, rugby league, soccer, futsal, basketball, netball, and volleyball.

The opening ceremony took place yesterday and featured remarks from Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Saukuru expressed his delight in recognizing the 16th annual Fiji University Games and extended his best wishes to all competitors participating in this year’s event, which includes 19 different sports across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories.

“It is a great pleasure to stand before you to acknowledge the 16th annual Fiji University Games,” said Saukuru. “We wish everyone the best as they compete in this year’s games, featuring a total of 19 sports.”

He emphasized the uniting power of sports, stating that it inspires and fosters a common goal while teaching valuable lessons in discipline and perseverance. He also stressed the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie, encouraging athletes to compete passionately, determinedly, and respectfully towards their opponents.

Saukuru urged participants to appreciate the journey and friendships forged through such competitions. He praised the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that the Fiji University Games represent. The event is set to conclude today.
