Fiji National University (FNU) accounts for 53 percent of the total Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) students enrolled across its institutions. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro reported to Parliament that as of 2024, there are 15,666 students receiving funding from TSLS.
Out of this total, FNU has 8,333 students enrolled, while the University of the South Pacific has 4,280. The University of Fiji has 902 TSLS students, the Sangam Institute of Technology has 319, Fulton College has 142, and Corpus Christi Teachers College has 100.
Radrodro noted that TSLS allocated $56 million to various tertiary institutions in the 2022-2023 financial year, with an increase to $62 million for 2023-2024. In this period, FNU received $30.7 million, the University of the South Pacific was allotted $13.1 million, the University of Fiji received $6.6 million, and the Sangam Institute of Nursing was funded $1.9 million.
He emphasized that TSLS is continually enhancing its policies to ensure the transparent and efficient management of taxpayer funds dedicated to scholarships and loans. In 2023, TSLS supported 13,860 students through its scholarship and loan programs, which has increased to 15,666 in 2024.
