Fiji University Dominates Tertiary Scholarships Enrollment with 53% Share

Fiji National University (FNU) currently enrolls 53 percent of all students funded by the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). Education Minister Aseri Radrodro reported to Parliament that there are 15,666 students receiving TSLS funding in 2024.

At FNU, 8,333 students are enrolled, while the University of the South Pacific serves 4,280 students. Additional enrollments include 902 at the University of Fiji, 319 at Sangam Institute of Technology, 142 at Fulton College, and 100 at Corpus Christi Teachers College.

In the financial year 2022-2023, TSLS disbursed $56 million to various tertiary institutions, increasing to $62 million in the following year. For 2023-2024, FNU received $30.7 million, USP obtained $13.1 million, the University of Fiji was allocated $6.6 million, and Sangam Institute of Nursing received $1.9 million.

Radrodro emphasized that TSLS is focused on enhancing policies for the transparent and efficient management of taxpayer funds related to scholarships and study loans. In total, TSLS funded 13,860 students under its schemes in 2023, compared to 15,666 students in 2024.
