Fiji is increasingly facing a deepening drug crisis that has raised alarms about its escalation. In response to this urgent issue, the Fiji Police Force and the military have decided to enhance their collaborative efforts to tackle the problem more effectively.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu announced that a joint briefing will take place on Monday with Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. This meeting aims to outline strategies for a stronger partnership in addressing the growing drug menace.

Public sentiment has been clear, with numerous calls for the military to take a more active role in drug enforcement alongside the police. Tudravu emphasized that while cooperation between the two forces is not a new concept, the severity of the current drug situation necessitates a more unified and comprehensive approach. He highlighted that addressing the drug problem cannot be the responsibility of a single agency; rather, it requires a collaborative framework that welcomes support from all sectors of society.

As Fiji confronts this significant challenge, the emphasis on coordinated efforts signals a hopeful step towards combating the spread of illicit drugs and fostering a safer environment for all citizens.
