Fiji’s national sporting federations are set to gather on Saturday, February 7, at the Holiday Inn for a crucial Performance & Pathways Workshop organized by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC). This workshop is themed “Designing Performance: Tahiti 2027 as the Launchpad to Brisbane 2032” and aims to unify high-performance strategies among all federations under a common national vision.

With the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti approaching, the workshop is intended to enhance Fiji’s performance systems, clarify athlete pathways, and establish accountability across all sporting levels. The goal is to ensure that every federation is aligned, well-resourced, and clear on expectations as Fiji aims for sustainable international competitiveness.

“This is about moving forward together with clarity, consistency, and shared responsibility,” said FASANOC Chief Executive Vanessa Kilner. She emphasized that the discussions and outcomes from the workshop will be pivotal in shaping performance planning, athlete development, and expectations nationally.

The program will challenge the leaders of federations and performance coaches to define success for their specific sports and outline the practical steps needed to attain those goals. Sessions will transition from vision to execution, honing in on the necessary preparations, sports science, and coaching resources required for athlete development leading up to both the 2027 Pacific Games and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

A significant aspect of the workshop will be the National Federation Performance Tracker and Checklist, a tool introduced at last year’s Mindset to Medals workshop. This audit will ground conversations in current realities, helping to pinpoint resource deficiencies, prioritize funding, and customize support to fit each sport’s particular pathway.

By bringing federations together around a set of shared high-performance principles, this workshop signals a vital transition from mere ambition to actionable accountability. It lays the groundwork for a robust sports system in Fiji, one that is dedicated to empowering athletes as they prepare for the upcoming decade filled with international competitions.

Facilitating the workshop will be seasoned sports leader Atma Maharaj, who has extensive experience in refining athlete development pathways and competitive frameworks. As a former FASANOC secretary-general and chef de mission, Maharaj is well-equipped to translate strategic plans into practical, athlete-centered programs across all sports.

This collaborative effort marks a hopeful and promising step towards ensuring that Fiji’s athletes have the support and resources they need to excel on the global stage.
