The Fiji Meteorological Service has announced that Tropical Cyclone Rae is expected to weaken as it moves south-southeast away from the Southern Lau Group later today. As of now, the cyclone is located approximately 10 kilometers north-northeast of Ono-i-Lau and about 185 kilometers south of Kabara, advancing at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
A storm warning is currently in effect for Vatoa and Ono-i-Lau, while a gale warning has been issued for the regions of Lakeba, Oneata, Moce, Komo, Namuka-i-Lau, Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea, and Totoya. These areas could experience wind speeds ranging from 65 to 110 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially reaching between 90 to 155 kilometers per hour. However, winds are anticipated to moderate later today, transitioning to strong to gale-force levels.
Additionally, a heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji group, raising alerts for possible flash flooding, particularly in vulnerable low-lying regions of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The active convergence zone impacting the northern and eastern areas highlights the need for residents to remain vigilant against strong winds and heavy rainfall.
