Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula is focusing heavily on fitness as the Fiji Under 20 rugby team ramps up its training for the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship commencing on February 27 in Auckland, New Zealand. Preparing to face strong competition from Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, Seruvakula emphasizes the necessity of peak physical condition for his squad.

During a training session at the Bidesi ground, Seruvakula stated, “They have to be fit, and for us as Fijians, fitness is paramount.” He believes that optimal fitness allows players to showcase their talents effectively on the field.

In addition to fitness, the Fiji Under 20 team plans to announce its finalized 30-member roster by the end of January. Players have been selected from last year’s Vodafone Deans Trophy, complemented by aspiring talent identified during open trials across several locations. This initiative aims to develop both local talent and integrate overseas-based players, enhancing the team’s dynamics and performance capabilities.

The proactive approach to training and team selection reflects a strong commitment to nurturing youth rugby in Fiji, embodying the essence of Fijian rugby culture. These efforts provide a significant opportunity for young athletes to shine on an international stage, fostering hope and optimism for future successes in Fijian rugby.

In summary, the disciplined training regime and focus on conditioning signal a promising period for the Fiji Under 20 team as they prepare to compete in a major tournament, offering young players a chance to showcase their abilities and gain valuable experience on an international level.
