The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 team is gearing up for a significant tour to New Zealand next month, with a clear focus on achieving victory. Head coach Sireli Bobo announced that the team’s preparations will officially commence on January 3, 2024, culminating in their departure from Fiji on January 29.
Bobo expressed his gratitude to the FSC for organizing the Under-20 sevens series, which included five exciting events held across various locations: Navua, Sigatoka, Savusavu, Rakiraki, and Suva’s HFC Bank stadium, concluding on November 30. The series showcased a wealth of promising young talent, with Bobo noting that even lesser-known teams provided stiff competition to established clubs.
The goal of this initiative is to nurture grassroots talent and provide players with opportunities to shine at higher levels. Bobo emphasized that this tour is not only about competing but also about exposing young athletes to new experiences, including flying on an airplane, which many will do for the first time.
“This tour will be special,” stated Bobo, highlighting that the team has been formed not just for this occasion, but as a vital stepping stone for these players to eventually represent Fiji on the international stage.
As the team prepares for this exciting journey, the emphasis on development and exposure signals a hopeful future for these young athletes. The dedication to building a strong foundation within grassroots sports will undoubtedly contribute to the overall growth of rugby in Fiji, fostering a new generation of talented players ready to make their mark.
In summary, the Fiji Under-20 team is embarking on an adventure that aims to develop and promote young talent while setting a competitive spirit that could lead to future successes.
