Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula is placing a strong emphasis on fitness as the Fiji Under 20 rugby team ramps up its preparations for the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship next month. As the team gets ready to face stiff competition from top-tier sides, including Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, Seruvakula is focused on ensuring his players maintain peak physical condition.

During a recent training session at Bidesi ground, Seruvakula stressed the need for high fitness levels, asserting, “They have to be fit. As Fijians, we must be fit.” He believes that when the players are physically prepared, they can fully express their talents on the field and compete effectively.

Seruvakula expressed his enthusiasm about seeing his players showcase their skills in the upcoming tournament, which is set to begin on February 27 in Auckland, New Zealand. This event will not only serve as a competitive platform but also as an opportunity for young athletes to gain confidence and display their abilities on an international stage.

In addition to refining the players’ fitness, the Fiji Under 20 squad will finalize its 30-member roster by the end of January. The squad is expected to feature players identified through last year’s Vodafone Deans Trophy competition, alongside aspiring athletes from open trials scheduled across several locations, aimed at nurturing local talent.

This proactive approach reflects a strategic commitment to developing a competitive team, capturing the essence of Fijian rugby culture. The collaboration between local and overseas-based players promises to enhance the squad’s dynamics and overall performance, fostering hope for future successes on the rugby field.

In summary, the disciplined training regimen and emphasis on fitness reflect a promising period for the Fiji Under 20 team, as it gears up for a significant opportunity to shine on a larger platform in the realm of youth rugby.
