Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula is prioritizing fitness as the Fiji Under 20 rugby team intensifies its preparations for the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship next month. With tough competition expected from Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, Seruvakula firmly believes in the significance of physical readiness for his players.

During a training session at Bidesi ground, Seruvakula emphasized the need for peak fitness levels, stating, “They have to be fit. As Fijians, we must be fit.” He explained that high fitness levels are essential for the players to perform to their fullest potential and reveal their unique talents on the field.

Seruvakula expressed excitement about seeing his players in action during the tournament, which is slated to commence on February 27 in Auckland, New Zealand. This upcoming event is not just an opportunity for competition, but a chance for the athletes to build confidence and showcase their skills on an international platform.

The Fiji Under 20 squad will also announce its final 30-member lineup by the end of January, as preparations ramp up for the Oceania and Super U20 competitions. The coaching staff will hold open trials across several locations, allowing aspiring players to join in and demonstrate their abilities, underlining the importance of nurturing local talent alongside overseas-based players.

This focused approach reflects a strategic commitment to developing a competitive team and indicates promising prospects for Fiji’s youth rugby. The collaboration between local and overseas players aims to enhance team dynamics and overall performance, fostering hope for future successes in the sport.

In summary, the disciplined training regimen and the emphasis on fitness highlight a proactive strategy for the Fiji Under 20 team, signaling an exciting period ahead for young rugby talent in Fiji as they prepare to compete on a larger stage.
