The Digicel Fiji U20 women’s soccer team is set to embark on an international journey that will take them to the United States and Costa Rica before participating in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. Their first stop will be in the United States for a 10-day training and match tour in San Francisco and Sacramento.
After their time in the U.S., the team will travel to Costa Rica for a week of international friendly matches against teams from Costa Rica and Morocco. Last night, the team received their World Cup jerseys during a ceremony that celebrated both sports and culture. The jerseys, featuring traditional Fijian designs, represent the nation’s heritage and highlight the team’s role as cultural ambassadors for Fiji on an international platform.
Midfielder Adi Litia Bakaniceva has been appointed as the captain of the Young Kulas, with Angie Rekha taking on the role of vice-captain. The team has received significant support from local businesses, including Puma boots and runners provided by Sports World.
This journey for Fiji is not solely focused on competition, but also emphasizes preparation and team bonding. They will face tough opponents in their World Cup group, including Brazil, Canada, and France. The team’s campaign will begin against Brazil on August 31 in Medellin, Colombia.
