The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) is gearing up for an exciting opportunity with their Under-20 team set to tour New Zealand next month. Head coach Sireli Bobo emphasized the team’s determination to succeed, stating, “Our aim is to win.” Preparations for the tour will kick off on January 3, leading to their departure on January 29.
Bobo expressed gratitude towards the FSC for organizing the competitive Under-20 sevens series, which showcased a wealth of talent across five legs held in various locations, including Navua, Sigatoka, Savusavu, Rakiraki, and culminating at Suva’s HFC Bank stadium on November 30. He noted the impressive participation and skill displayed by young athletes during the series.
The recent competition highlighted the capabilities of emerging teams such as Village Boys, QVSOBs, Ca’au, and Dominion Brothers, revealing raw talent and even challenging well-established clubs. Bobo reiterated the importance of developing players from grassroots levels to ensure they can compete at higher levels.
He also mentioned that this tour holds special significance for some players, as it will be their first experience flying on an airplane. Bobo sees this as not just a journey for the current tour but a vital opportunity for these young athletes to strive for higher ambitions in their sporting careers, including representing Fiji in the future.
Overall, this tour represents a crucial step for the growth and development of Fijian rugby talent, fostering a sense of hope and potential for the players involved.
