The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 rugby team is gearing up for an exciting tour to New Zealand next month, with a clear objective to achieve victory. Head coach Sireli Bobo shared insights about the team’s preparation, announcing that they will go into camp starting January 3rd, ahead of their departure on January 29th.

Bobo expressed his gratitude to the FSC for organizing the five-leg Under-20 sevens series, which began in Navua and culminated in Suva on November 30th. He noted the impressive turnout and the wealth of raw talent displayed during the matches. The competitive engagement of teams like Village Boys, QVSOBs, Ca’au, and Dominion Brothers highlighted a vibrant sports culture in Fiji, even pushing established clubs to their limits.

A principal aim of the tour is not only to pursue success but also to broaden the players’ experiences, particularly for some who will fly for the first time. Bobo emphasized that this initiative represents a broader strategy to nourish and develop young talents from the grassroots level, paving the way for future opportunities, including representing their country in rugby.

The focus on nurturing talent and fostering experience is a promising step for the future of Fijian rugby, as it ensures that young players are prepared to compete at higher levels. This tour represents not just a chance for victory but an important milestone in their athletic journeys, instilling hope for brighter prospects in their sporting careers.

The collaborative efforts of coaches and organizations to develop young athletes in Fiji are commendable and could potentially yield significant rewards for the national rugby scene in years to come.
