The Fiji U16 women’s team is determined to recover in their next OFC U-16 Women’s Championship match against the Cook Islands after a challenging draw with Tonga. Team captain Annie May highlighted the need for improved focus and composure.
“Some of us were coming in nervous, so we’ll try to concentrate on ball control, enhance our passing, and particularly strengthen our defense,” May expressed. The emotional toll of their last match was evident, but she remains optimistic moving forward.
“I told the girls it’s not the end of the world. We have two matches ahead of us, so we have to move forward and focus on that,” she added.
National Coach Marika Rodu echoed May’s thoughts, noting areas that require improvement following the team’s three-goal performance against Tonga. “It wasn’t the result that we wanted, and we’ll work on improving our defense and maintaining better possession of the ball,” Rodu said.
Fiji is set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva at 3 PM.
