The Fiji U16 women’s football team is aiming to recover in their forthcoming OFC U-16 Women’s Championship match against the Cook Islands after facing a tough draw with Tonga. Team captain Annie May stressed the importance of improved focus and composure ahead of the match. She noted that nerves affected some players, stating, “We’ll try to focus on ball control, improve our passes, and especially strengthen our defense.”
Despite the emotional weight from their last game, May remains optimistic. “I told the girls it’s not the end of the world. We have two matches ahead of us, so we have to move forward and focus on that,” she said.
National Coach Marika Rodu also highlighted areas needing improvement despite the team scoring three goals against Tonga. “It wasn’t the result that we wanted, and we’ll try to improve our defense and maintain possession of the ball more effectively,” Rodu commented.
Fiji is set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, with the match scheduled for 3 PM.
