Fiji U16 Women’s Team Aims for Redemption in OFC Championship Showdown

The Fiji U16 women’s soccer team is preparing to rebound in their upcoming match against the Cook Islands in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, following a tough draw with Tonga. Team captain Annie May highlighted the importance of improved focus and composure ahead of the game.

“Some players were a bit nervous during the last match, so we will work on ball control, enhancing our passing, and especially tightening our defense,” May shared. Despite the emotional toll of the previous game, she remains optimistic. “I reminded the girls that it’s not the end of the world. We have two matches left, and we need to stay positive and move forward,” she added.

National Coach Marika Rodu also acknowledged the team’s need for improvement, particularly after managing to score three goals against Tonga. “The result was not what we hoped for. We will focus on strengthening our defense and keeping better possession of the ball,” Rodu stated.

Fiji will face the Cook Islands tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, with the match scheduled to kick off at 3 PM.
