The Fiji U16 women’s football team is eager to regain their momentum in the upcoming OFC U-16 Women’s Championship match against the Cook Islands, following a tough draw against Tonga. Team captain Annie May highlighted the necessity for enhanced focus and composure among the players.
“Some of us were entering the game feeling nervous, so we’ll work on ball control, refining our passes, and particularly bolstering our defense,” May commented. Despite the emotional toll from their last match, she remains optimistic about the future. “I reminded the girls that it’s not the end of the world. We have two more matches ahead, and we need to stay positive and focused,” she added.
National Coach Marika Rodu also emphasized the need for improvement, stating that the team’s ability to score three goals against Tonga was not sufficient for the desired outcome. “It wasn’t the result we hoped for, and we’ll focus on strengthening our defense and improving ball possession,” Rodu remarked.
Fiji’s match against the Cook Islands is scheduled for tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, starting at 3 PM.
