The Fiji U16 women’s football team is aiming to recover in their next match against the Cook Islands in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, following a difficult draw with Tonga. Captain Annie May highlighted the importance of improved focus and composure for the team.
“Some of us were coming in nervous, so we’ll try to focus on ball control, improve our passes, and especially strengthen our defense,” May expressed. Although the emotional impact of their last game was significant, she remains optimistic about the future. “I told the girls it’s not the end of the world. We have two matches ahead of us, so we have to move forward and focus on that,” she encouraged.
National Coach Marika Rodu echoed her thoughts, identifying key areas that need enhancement after the team netted three goals against Tonga. “It wasn’t the result that we wanted, and we’ll try to improve our defense and maintain possession of the ball more effectively,” Rodu remarked.
Fiji’s match against the Cook Islands is scheduled for tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, starting at 3 PM.
