Fiji U16 Head Coach Sunil Kumar and his team experienced a wave of emotions after achieving a significant milestone by qualifying for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Tahiti. The team faced Tahiti on their home turf, and Veleni Rasorewa proved to be the standout player, scoring both goals in their 2-1 victory.
Kumar highlighted the collective effort of the team, despite Rasorewa receiving the man of the match accolade. “Everyone played their roles, from the goalkeeper to the strikers. That’s how we secured our two goals. While Veleni Rasorewa earned the man of the match, it was truly a team effort,” he stated.
In reflecting on a previous loss to New Zealand during the pool stages, Kumar mentioned how he motivated his players to face their rivals with renewed determination. “After our setback against New Zealand in the pool game, I challenged the boys to go head to head with them again, and now we will meet in the final. We will refocus and strategize against New Zealand,” the coach explained.
As they approach the final, Fiji’s team is committed to maintaining their momentum and is ready to take on New Zealand once more.
