The Digicel Fiji U16 team is set to return from Tahiti tomorrow after successfully earning their place in the FIFA U17 World Cup at the OFC U16 Championship. Coach Sunil Kumar has announced that plans are in progress to schedule friendly matches as part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup.
Kumar mentioned that talks have commenced with coaches from New Zealand and New Caledonia to organize a tri-nation series aimed at enhancing the performance of all three teams prior to the global tournament.
“Arranging test matches is our top priority at the moment. Immediately after the final, we discussed the option of friendlies or a tri-nation series that allows us to support each other’s development,” Kumar remarked. He noted that this initiative will depend on the football boards of the respective countries to evaluate and make the necessary decisions.
