The Digicel Fiji U16 team is set to return from Tahiti tomorrow, having secured a place in the FIFA U17 World Cup during the OFC U16 Championship. Coach Sunil Kumar has announced that plans are in motion to organize friendly matches as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Kumar indicated that conversations have started with coaches from New Zealand and New Caledonia to arrange a tri-nation series aimed at enhancing the performance of all three teams prior to the global tournament. “Arranging test matches is our top priority at the moment. Immediately after the final, we talked about the possibility of friendlies or a tri-nation series to support each other’s development,” Kumar stated. He emphasized that this initiative would depend on the respective football governing bodies to assess and make necessary decisions.
