The Fiji Football under-16 team aims to adopt a fearless game plan as they compete in the U16 OFC Championship in Tahiti from July 28 to August 10.
Head coach Sunil Kumar emphasizes the importance of consistency.
“Our style and approach will be more fearless. The consistent message to our players in training is ‘play to win, in body and in mind,’” Kumar stated.
The coach mentioned their objective to make history by becoming the first Fijian team to win the championship and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup.
“Our objective is to be the first Fijian U16 team to win the OFC Championship and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup. Our aim is to incorporate more Fijian flair into our game,” Kumar added.
“We will take each game one at a time and aim to finish the group on top.”
The team includes four overseas-based players: one from the UK, two from Australia, and one from New Zealand.
“We currently have 24 players in camp. Only 23 players will travel on July 23. We have four overseas-based players: one from the UK, two from Australia, and one from New Zealand.”
“The overseas players have integrated very well with the local players,” Kumar concluded.
