The Fiji National under-16 Boys League 2024 is set to resume this weekend with fixtures in the southern zone, following a previous halt caused by scheduling conflicts and unforeseen challenges. Fiji FA confirmed the league’s continuation in a statement on their website earlier this week.
Last year’s competition faced interruptions due to adverse weather conditions and player availability issues. However, teams are now eager to pick up where they left off, showcasing their talents on the field. Fiji FA competitions manager Shaniya Shankar emphasized the league’s significance in nurturing young football talent, stating, “Due to weather conditions and other commitments, we couldn’t run the competition last year. But it will continue this year.”
The ongoing league provides a crucial platform for young athletes to gain match experience and demonstrate their skills. With Fiji FA reaffirming its commitment to salvaging the competition, teams will soon compete for the overall title following their regional matches.
The southern zone matches will take place at the Saraswati Manoca Primary School Ground in Nausori, where excitement is building. Currently, Navua U16 leads the competition standings with 22 points from eight matches, while Suva U16 and Rewa U16 follow in second and third place, respectively, with 12 and 11 points from six matches.
Upcoming fixtures will feature intense matchups, including top contenders such as Nasinu U16, Suva U16, and Navua U16. The culmination of these southern zone fixtures will lead to a national play-off to determine the overall league champion.
This event not only aims to enhance the skills of the players but also fosters community spirit and enthusiasm for youth football, creating a hopeful outlook for the development of the sport in Fiji.
