The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) recently engaged in a significant meeting with the U.S. Coast Guard as part of the International Port Security (IPS) Program. This collaboration, held last week, centered on the exchange of best practices surrounding maritime and port security.
During their discussions, the two organizations delved into critical topics such as governance, threat response, security assessments, drills, and pressing concerns like cybersecurity. The MSAF expressed its appreciation for this partnership, reiterating its dedication to enhancing maritime security in accordance with international standards.
This meeting holds particular importance, as it precedes an audit scheduled for February 2026, along with the confirmation of two training sessions planned for mid-2026. To commemorate the ongoing cooperation, a token of appreciation was presented to Iliesa Batisaresare, the acting CEO of MSAF, by the U.S. Coast Guard team. This gesture symbolizes the strong relationship and mutual goal of improving maritime safety and security in the region.
The proactive steps taken by MSAF demonstrate a commendable commitment to safeguarding maritime environments, which is vital for the safety of international shipping and trade.
