Fiji U-16s Shine Bright, Secures Spot in FIFA U-17 World Cup!

Fiji’s U-16 team put on an impressive display, overcoming Tahiti 2-1 to secure a spot in the finals of the OFC Championship. This victory also guarantees their participation in the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar next year.

The match kicked off with Tahiti taking control of the early exchanges but failing to penetrate Fiji’s robust defense. Fiji’s breakthrough came in the 7th minute when Veleni Rasorewa showcased his exceptional skill by evading two defenders and skillfully sliding the ball past the Tahitian goalkeeper, setting a dynamic tone for the match.

Despite Tahiti dominating possession for much of the game, they struggled to convert their opportunities into goals, with their best effort hitting the post just before halftime. Fiji continued to rely on tactical counterattacks, and in the 68th minute, Rasorewa netted his second goal with a powerful strike, extending Fiji’s lead.

Tahiti managed to pull one back after a long-range shot deflected off a Fijian defender and into the goal, reigniting their hopes. Nonetheless, Fiji’s defense proved resilient, withstanding Tahiti’s late efforts to secure the win until the final whistle.
