The Fiji U-16 team celebrated their first victory at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, defeating the Cook Islands 2-0 in a vital match in Suva. After a tough 3-3 draw against Tonga, Fiji was determined to win and maintain their semi-final aspirations.
Fiji took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Sisilia Kuladina, who continued her impressive form from the previous match. She took advantage of an opportunity just outside the box, sending a powerful shot into the bottom left corner, leaving the Cook Islands goalkeeper, Vahine Uini, unable to react in time.
Grace Lakavutu soon increased Fiji’s advantage by skillfully evading the offside trap and slotting the ball into the net. By halftime, Fiji held a comfortable lead.
In the second half, the Cook Islands put up a more determined fight, creating several scoring opportunities for their young forwards. However, the Fijian goalkeeper stood strong, successfully keeping their lead intact.
Ultimately, Fiji secured three points from the match, placing them second in Group A.
