The Fiji U-16 women’s team achieved their first victory at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship by defeating the Cook Islands 2-0 in a significant match held in Suva. Following a challenging 3-3 draw with Tonga, Fiji entered the game with determination to secure a win and maintain their semi-final aspirations.
Fiji opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Sisilia Kuladina capitalized on an opportunity just outside the penalty area, driving the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving Cook Islands goalkeeper Vahine Uini with no chance. Kuladina followed up on her impressive performance from the previous match with yet another remarkable goal.
Grace Lakavutu quickly extended Fiji’s advantage, skillfully evading the offside trap before slotting the ball into the net, placing Fiji in a strong position as they headed into halftime.
Although the Cook Islands showed more resilience in the second half, creating several opportunities that challenged the young Fijian goalkeeper, the defense held firm. The match concluded with Fiji claiming three points, which put them in second place in Group A.
