Fiji’s U-16 women’s football coach, Marika Rodu, provided reflections on his team’s performance at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, where they secured fifth place. While the team did not progress to the semi-finals, Rodu praised their determination.
“I know we were out of the competition already but that did not dampen our spirits. We identified mistakes from the three pool games. The match against the Solomon Islands could have gone either way, but the girls were eager to finish on a high note, and I appreciate their commitment,” said Rodu.
He emphasized the valuable lessons learned throughout the tournament, noting that Samoa set a high standard with their impressive ball movement and defensive skills.
Rodu also expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, acknowledging those who traveled long distances to cheer for the team. “I thank the fans for all their efforts, I know they have traveled from afar from the west, and I believe the girls really enjoyed their presence,” he added.
