Fiji U-16 Coach Reflects on Championship Journey and Valuable Lessons

Fiji’s U-16 head coach Marika Rodu provided insights into the team’s performance at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, where they secured a fifth-place finish. While the team did not progress to the semi-finals, Rodu praised their determination and positive spirit throughout the competition.

“I know we were out of the competition already, but that did not dampen our spirits. We learned from our mistakes during the three pool games. The match against the Solomons could have gone either way, but the girls were eager to conclude the tournament on a high note, and I appreciate their effort,” said Rodu.

He also highlighted the valuable learning experiences the tournament offered, noting how Samoa set a standard with their impressive ball movement and defensive strategies.

Rodu expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, acknowledging those who traveled long distances to cheer for the team. “I thank the fans for all their efforts; the girls really enjoyed having them there,” he stated.
