Fiji U-16 Coach Reflects on Championship Journey and Team Spirit

Fiji’s Under-16 women’s soccer head coach, Marika Rodu, discussed his team’s journey in the recent OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, where they secured a fifth-place finish. Although they did not reach the semi-finals, Rodu praised the team’s determination and resilience.

“I know we were out of the competition already, but that did not dampen our spirits. We learned from our three pool games. The match against the Solomon Islands could have gone either way, but the girls really wanted to conclude the tournament on a positive note, and I would like to thank them for their effort,” Rodu remarked.

He highlighted the valuable learning experiences the tournament offered, noting that Samoa set a high standard with their impressive ball movement and defensive strategies.

Rodu also expressed gratitude towards the fans who supported the team. “I thank the fans for all their efforts. I know they traveled a long way from the west, and I believe the girls truly appreciated their presence,” he said.
