Fiji Triumphs in Historic OFC Women’s Futsal Championship Opener

Koleta Likuculacula scored twice as Fiji defeated Tahiti 2-1 in their inaugural match at the OFC Women’s Futsal Championship in the Solomon Islands. The game came to life towards the end of the first half, with Tahiti taking an early lead in the 15th minute, courtesy of the prolific Remeha.

Fiji quickly responded, as Likuculacula skillfully controlled the ball on the right side of the Tahiti box, cutting onto her left foot to fire a shot past Tahiti goalkeeper Corail Harry, leveling the score. Tahiti’s situation worsened when Ninauea Hioe received a second yellow card, leaving her team a player down for two minutes.

Fiji attempted to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Although they couldn’t score during that period, they eventually found the winning goal minutes before the final whistle. While Harry made a commendable double save from a free-kick taken by Fiji’s Cema Nasau, she was unable to stop Likuculacula from netting her second goal, ensuring victory for Fiji.
