The Fiji Tribe team of the Australia Football League (AFL) is gearing up for the upcoming Pacific Cup, set to take place in Brisbane, Australia, from November 14 to 24. Head coach Alipate Navuso shared this exciting news during the presentation of training kits provided by their sponsors.

Navuso highlighted that the team has undergone seven weeks of rigorous daily training, with Sundays designated as rest days. The roster features eight seasoned players who have previously represented Fiji in the 2011, 2014, and 2017 World Cups, showcasing a wealth of experience. Additionally, nine players have risen through the AFL Fiji pathway programs, specifically from the Under-14, Under-15, and Under-17 teams, making their debut in senior competition.

In this squad, there are also 11 newcomers to the sport, stepping onto the field as representatives of Fiji for the first time. Despite the challenges of securing sponsorship—due to AFL being considered a minor sport in Fiji—Navuso expressed gratitude to Flame Tree, who stepped in to support the team.

Focusing on fundamental skills and physical fitness, Navuso emphasized that the blend of experience and fresh talent constitutes the team’s primary strengths. The new players, dubbed underdogs, are eager to prove themselves during the tournament.

Navuso praised the players’ commitment, noting that attendance during training has been perfect. He also acknowledged the invaluable support from sponsors and families, considering the financial sacrifices made by players for their training in Suva. Many players covered personal expenses for travel and accommodation, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to their team’s success.

This team’s journey symbolizes resilience and the spirit of sportsmanship. The players’ hard work and enthusiasm can inspire many, reflecting the values of teamwork and perseverance. As they prepare for the Pacific Cup, hope is high for the Fiji Tribe to achieve great results and make their mark on the international stage.
