The Fiji Tribe team, representing the Australia Football League (AFL), is gearing up for an ambitious goal of winning the Pacific Cup, which will take place in Brisbane, Australia, from November 14 to 24. Head coach Alipate Navuso shared this exciting objective during the unveiling of their training kits, provided by their sponsors.

Navuso highlighted the team’s dedication, stating that they have engaged in seven weeks of rigorous daily training, with Sundays set aside for rest. The composition of the team boasts eight seasoned players with past experience in the 2011, 2014, and 2017 World Cups, alongside nine athletes who have developed through the AFL Fiji pathway programs for youth football. This will be the first time for eleven of these players to don the national jersey.

Despite the challenges in securing sponsorships for a sport considered minor in Fiji, the team expressed gratitude for the support from Flame Tree, their current sponsor. Coach Navuso pointed out that the combination of experience and fresh talent is the team’s greatest asset. The training has focused heavily on the essential skills of AFL and enhancing fitness levels.

The coach also recognized the newcomers as underdogs, eager to demonstrate their capabilities on the field. He commended the players for their unwavering commitment, noting that attendance during training has been excellent. Navuso expressed appreciation for both the sponsors and the supportive families of the players, highlighting the personal sacrifices made by the team, including self-funding their travel and accommodations for training in Suva.

This upcoming tournament presents a significant opportunity for the Fiji Tribe team not only to compete but to showcase their dedication and passion for the sport. As they work hard to prepare, there is a sense of optimism that their efforts and resilience will pay off in the Pacific Cup.

In summary, the Fiji Tribe is committed to making a mark in the Pacific Cup, uniting experience with fresh talent and showcasing the dedication of their players and sponsors. Their journey exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and community support, a hopeful sign for the future of AFL in Fiji.
